Fuel Cell Stack: The heart of the hydrogen fuel cell car is the fuel cell stack. It consists of multiple individual fuel cells arranged in a stack. Each fuel cell contains an anode (negative electrode) and a cathode (positive electrode) separated by an electrolyte membrane.

Electrochemical Reaction: Hydrogen gas from the tank is fed into the anode side of the fuel cell stack. At the anode, hydrogen molecules are split into protons (positively charged ions) and electrons (negatively charged particles). The protons migrate through the electrolyte membrane to the cathode side, while the electrons flow through an external circuit, generating an electric current that powers the vehicle's electric motor.

Combining with Oxygen: Simultaneously, oxygen from the air is drawn into the cathode side of the fuel cell stack. At the cathode, oxygen molecules combine with the protons that have migrated through the electrolyte membrane and electrons from the external circuit to form water (H2O), which is expelled as the only byproduct of the reaction.

Electric Motor: The electric current produced by the electrochemical reaction powers the vehicle's electric motor, which drives the wheels, providing propulsion.

Regenerative Braking: Some hydrogen fuel cell vehicles incorporate regenerative braking technology, which captures kinetic energy during braking and converts it into electrical energy to recharge the vehicle's battery or supplement power to the electric motor.
